last pentecost monday i spent at the museum insel hombroich, a renaturated park- and pasture landscape with a range of sculptural architecture by erwin heerich, some of them functioning as exhibition spaces, others being entirely empty and merely living of their audible and optical sensation. in one of the latter a couple, presumably eastern european, were standing in the middle of the circular room, improvising a sung dialogue by tones only, alike a phantasy language. a group of visitors gathered around them, silently sitting down and listening to their sounds and just like them i was instantly captured and sat down awe-struck by the immense atmosphere filling up the entire space. i do not know how long i sat there, eyes closed, listening to those two wonderful beings, but i remember i was moved to tears.
